Today we will take a look at the latter of the two. Fighting game fan art is really popular there, but some folks wanna see their favorite male character as a female for some reason. Enjoy this odd look at gender bender fan art from Pixiv.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h6M3pXdI/AAAAAAAAA0I/LTGlpVuyl9U/s1600/3933133.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 257px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h6M3pXdI/AAAAAAAAA0I/LTGlpVuyl9U/s400/3933133.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498369478836706770" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h5sELhlI/AAAAAAAAA0A/-61XzdmXEkU/s1600/4109711.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 294px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h5sELhlI/AAAAAAAAA0A/-61XzdmXEkU/s400/4109711.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498369470030906962" border="0" /></a><br />Jedah and Terry Bogard<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h5BEPxzI/AAAAAAAAAz4/wh5Q0LXp1Kc/s1600/4746226.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 313px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h5BEPxzI/AAAAAAAAAz4/wh5Q0LXp1Kc/s400/4746226.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498369458488461106" border="0" /></a>Ragna the Blood Edge<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h4w_D74I/AAAAAAAAAzw/7O8G9FPTSYU/s1600/7933875.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 323px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h4w_D74I/AAAAAAAAAzw/7O8G9FPTSYU/s400/7933875.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498369454171746178" border="0" /></a><br />Sol Badguy<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h4cEeLEI/AAAAAAAAAzo/hEuWiWa9zwQ/s1600/11451603.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TE4h4cEeLEI/AAAAAAAAAzo/hEuWiWa9zwQ/s400/11451603.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5498369448557292610" border="0" /></a><br />Ryu, Ken, and M. In the older console generations, hundreds of awesome RPGs and adventure titles would be considered "too Japanese" to even consider releasing in the US or Europe. Upset fans eventually started to take up the mantle of translating and hacking import games to be presented in their own native language. These days gaming enthusiasts can usually find someone working (or attempting) to translate almost any niche title America was denied in the past. It is good times that we live in.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETuZ4tM6QI/AAAAAAAAAzY/81far7nhUK0/s1600/sggg0005.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETuZ4tM6QI/AAAAAAAAAzY/81far7nhUK0/s400/sggg0005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495779573784963330" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:78%;"><br /></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:78%;">Picture is from the translation of Segagaga in progress courtesy of James Howell.</span><br /></div></div><br />Let's take a trip to the 16 Bit and 8 bit era...<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-weight: bold;">FAN TRANSLATIONS OF THE </span><span style="font-weight: bold;">DISTANT PAST</span></div><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><br /></span></span></span>My first experience with fan translations came around 2000. I started to take a growing interest in games I saw in the import section of Gamefan and online, so the hunt began for English versions of these mysterious gems. Soon I had an English rom of Seiken Densetsu 3, the sequel to Secret of Mana. The game blew my mind! The translation was good and made me wish for a commercial release ( I am still waiting BTW.)<br />Fast forward to today and I have played many great fan translations on all manner of consoles. Here is a brief look back at some early fan translations:<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">SD Snatcher</span> As far I know, this is the first fan translation. The game is a mini MSX version of Kojima's brilliant Snatcher, which originally appeared on the Sega CD. The translation was modified this year to fill the opening sequence. Overall this is a cool game and a must download for fans of Snatcher or RPGs in general.---> <a href="http://www.romhacking.net/trans/1385/">http://www.romhacking.net/trans/1385/</a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh6GYSG5I/AAAAAAAAAyo/MLsFGS3UO24/s1600/606screenshot4.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 334px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh6GYSG5I/AAAAAAAAAyo/MLsFGS3UO24/s400/606screenshot4.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495765833559972754" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Final Fantasy V </span>This unpopular title was originally released on the Super Famicom in 1992, then skipped for US distribution until Final Fantasy Anthology came overseas many years later. Fan group RPGe translated Final Fantasy V to English and gave many gamers their first look at the "lost" title in the series. It has been released several times since then on platforms ranging from the PSX to the GBA, but as this was one of the first full RPG translations, it still remains very memorable to players even today.----> <a href="http://www.romhacking.net/trans/353/">http://www.romhacking.net/trans/35</a><a href="http://www.romhacking.net/trans/353/">3/</a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh5uC4oUI/AAAAAAAAAyY/vAGdm261J2Y/s1600/ff5e-01b.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 223px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh5uC4oUI/AAAAAAAAAyY/vAGdm261J2Y/s400/ff5e-01b.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495765827027771714" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Seiken Densetsu 3</span> Another early triumph over the cruel bastards at Squaresoft that decided to pass on an English release. The only Mana game to never be released outside Japan, is also the best (go figure.) The graphics are stunning, the music is amazing, and Neil Corlett's script is excellent. Gaijin Productions did a nice job finding this obscurity and placing it into English. There have been so many great and recent fan translations released, that it is tough to narrow a few, but here are the true stand outs:<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">MOTHER 3</span> Simply put, this game rocks! Earthbound fans were very sad when Nintendo passed on official distribution of Mother 3 in the states. The game is amazing, and the fan translation is equally amazing. This is one of the best games ever made for the GBA, and it should be a sin that Nintendo kept this baby in Japan, but that is how big business goes sometimes. Expert translator Gemini saw fit to bless us with an exceptional translation for what maybe the most interesting prequel in gaming. Rumors say Sony passed on official release of this game to due to themes like Neo Nazis, homosexuality, and Hitler. You shouldn't pass on this translation, as it is one of the best ones available.----><a href="http://tsumi.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/already-an-update-damn/">http://tsumi.wordpress.com/2008/1</a><a href="http://tsumi.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/already-an-update-damn/">0/15/already-</a><a href="http://tsumi.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/already-an-update-damn/">an-update-damn/</a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETk-R78RSI/AAAAAAAAAzI/ijMhga4Mhwc/s1600/hitlernw2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETk-R78RSI/AAAAAAAAAzI/ijMhga4Mhwc/s400/hitlernw2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495769203916686626" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Policenauts</span> This is Hideo Kojima's only big title to never be released outside Japan. Policenauts' gritty story follows a washed up space cop on a job that leads him back to his past. The translation for this game took an immense amount of time, but it was well worth the wait. Then this is your dream game! This odd PS2 collaboration between Capcom and Namco, which features tons of characters from each universe duking it out in a manner similar to last year's DS hit Endless Frontier, will rock your fanboy world. Tales of Innocence only came a few years ago, but a team saw that it would be left in Japan and decided to step up and translate it for the fans. The game is a main series Tales title, so the story and world design are great. The team, Absolute Zero Translations, also went out of their way to fix glitches included in the original game. Recently the translation of Ys: The Oath of Felghana for PSP was purchased by Xseed. I hope more publishers pool the talents of fans and developers to make quicker and easier localizations available. I know smaller companies are open to this, but how long before the big companies like Nintendo and Square Enix give in?<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETjZ05t3XI/AAAAAAAAAy4/xoT69ec9NsE/s1600/4194669437_0d5173cb46_o.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 233px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETjZ05t3XI/AAAAAAAAAy4/xoT69ec9NsE/s400/4194669437_0d5173cb46_o.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495767478135807346" border="0" /></a><br />As pictured above, the long awaited translation of Segagaga is slowly underway. Here are some more translations to keep an eye out for in the near future:<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Samurai Shodown RPG</span> The translator Deuce, also responsible for the Ys translation, is working on this one. Progress seems to be coming along, so hopefully this one releases by the end of the year. This is one of those "lost" RPG classics that deserves more attention. Sadly, he chose the super obscure Neo Geo CD as the platform of choice for the translation. On the bright side, it is the best port of SamSho RPG. <a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177727">http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=177727</a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETfgY9uiVI/AAAAAAAAAxo/pq3HumQ7P84/s1600/ssrpg-3.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 304px; height: 224px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETfgY9uiVI/AAAAAAAAAxo/pq3HumQ7P84/s400/ssrpg-3.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495763192849008978" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">ASH Archaic Sealed Heat </span> This is a cool looking Nintendo DS RPG that seems to be out of the translation phase. Beta testing began some time ago, so it shouldn't be too long before we get some official word on the patch's release. Try GBAtemp's forums for news or google the English patch for more details.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh6Tt0j2I/AAAAAAAAAyw/VubE5W0BpgI/s1600/ash.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 384px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETh6Tt0j2I/AAAAAAAAAyw/VubE5W0BpgI/s400/ash.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495765837139971938" border="0" /></a>If you do intend to download the newer DS game translations, please try to buy the Japanese version from a retailer. These companies need your money to survive, so don't be a dick and just pirate new games to save a buck. If you like a game vote with your dollar. Maybe this will convince the company to release the next game in the US if sells are good enough.<br /><br />In closing, I am eager to see what happens with fan translations. Really great games like Mother 3 are now available in English through unofficial channels, but it is interesting to think what cult classics and obscure gems could look like re-released legally on platforms like the Wii Virtual Console or Steam. My personal hope is someone gets these game companies on board with Xseed's plan of hiring fans for fans. I guess it all depends on how well Y's: Oath of Felghana sells in the US.<br /><br />Now if only the Sega Saturn game Wachenroder was easier to hack and translate, I have wanted to see this game in English since it was released in the late 90's. Hopefully one day it will happen!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETnCK16ygI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/w8SlbGpaqc0/s1600/1669473126_0dacc31040.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 342px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TETnCK16ygI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/w8SlbGpaqc0/s400/1669473126_0dacc31040.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495771469755107842" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></div></div><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-1240387031225696313?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-59646358531657564952010-07-15T10:27:00.000-07:002010-07-15T12:00:21.428-07:002010-07-15T12:00:21.428-07:00Hidden NES Gems Part TwoAs I promised, here is the follow up to my look back at the obscure gems of the NES library that deserve your attention.<br /><br />Willow- Only Capcom could make a wonderful game based on a movie about a midget in tights traveling with a surly Val Kilmer (actually the movie is kinda cool too if you like fantasy flicks.) The game is a RPG in the vein of Zelda, but not quite as good. The soundtrack and graphics are very impressive for the NES era, and show what a movie to game transition should be...yes I am looking at you, Total Recall. The controls are a little odd in this one, but aside from that, it comes highly recommended. For more Willow and Capcom magic, check out the kickass arcade game on MAME.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0w898-I/AAAAAAAAAxY/obn9O5dli6Y/s1600/gfs_29052_2_2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 360px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0w898-I/AAAAAAAAAxY/obn9O5dli6Y/s400/gfs_29052_2_2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494198937839334370" border="0" /></a>Shatterhand- Do you like bad box art? If you do, then this game is for you buddy! In all seriousness, this is one of those truly awesome games hidden behind a very shitty cover box. Shatterhand follows a cop in his efforts to destroy every robot and cyborg he comes across. The gameplay is a mix of Mega Man, Bionic Commando, and a little Ninja Gaiden. Each stage is selectable in whatever order you choose, and the difficulty is just enough to make the game fun but not overly painful. The graphics are descent and the music rocks. This one is also really cheap on eBay, go get it now!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0NZLYZI/AAAAAAAAAxI/AcywfvuBcUE/s1600/shatterhand-4.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 232px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0NZLYZI/AAAAAAAAAxI/AcywfvuBcUE/s400/shatterhand-4.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494198928293978514" border="0" /></a>Summer Carnival '92 Recca - The title is a mouthful, but it is a true shmup classic. It was sadly only released for the Famicom in Japan. Recca was also only released in limited quantities as it was created for a gaming competition, so it is a very expensive and rare title to come across even overseas. It is beyond obscure, but everyone should know this game, because it is the best shooter on the NES. The game plays very fast and it is insanely hard. The frantic shooting frenzy is matched by an equally bumping techno soundtrack. Recca is hard as nails, but this shouldn't stop a shooting game fan from owning it. The developer went onto work for Cave, the company known today as the "bullet hell" masters. An original copy can be quite expensive, but sites like GameReproductions have very reasonably priced repro carts available.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0b9y3JI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/Eh-ENTJQbkU/s1600/1.jpg.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TD9Q0b9y3JI/AAAAAAAAAxQ/Eh-ENTJQbkU/s400/1.jpg.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494198932205657234" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-5964635853165756495?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-63128817970538780892010-07-01T11:46:00.000-07:002010-07-01T11:53:23.702-07:002010-07-01T11:53:23.702-07:00Link Hates Navi Too<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCzjn8vqAmI/AAAAAAAAAxA/YpDcIM4TC2A/s1600/Navi___Hey_Listen_by_GENZOMAN.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCzjn8vqAmI/AAAAAAAAAxA/YpDcIM4TC2A/s400/Navi___Hey_Listen_by_GENZOMAN.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489012321318208098" border="0" /></a>Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is a wonderful game with one annoying character: Navi. The Nintendo's library is vast and for every Super Mario 3, there is ten Dick Tracy's waiting to make you regret playing video games in the first place. Here are some of my favorite hidden gems, that are worth blowing money on and blowing cartridges over...<br /><br />River City Ransom- Do you like beating people up with random objects? This is the grand dad of Final Fight style beat'ems and it has plenty of the aforementioned activity. The game involves two dudes attempting to rescue their girlfriends from a geek named "Slick." Along the way you fight random gangs, and exchange strange dialogue like "Barf" with various thugs. It is campy and fun. River City Ransom also has some weird ( and funny) RPG elements like buying items and getting nude spa treatments. Don't miss this one, it needs to be in any self respecting gamer's library.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlCDzZnI/AAAAAAAAAwA/-pn2ayWzb_8/s1600/river-city-ransom-hitting-vc-next-week-20080416002752504.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 232px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlCDzZnI/AAAAAAAAAwA/-pn2ayWzb_8/s400/river-city-ransom-hitting-vc-next-week-20080416002752504.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488064492182136434" border="0" /></a>Clash at Demonhead- While this game has a super hardcore title, it is actually about a dude trying to stop a mad scientist. The game play is all about platforming, shooting stuff, and collecting power ups to reach new areas. The controls work well and the graphics are nice and colorful. It should have been a classic like Mega Man or Castlevania, but for some reason it remains in total obscurity. On a personal note, when I beat this game, the cartridge stopped working entirely and has never worked again.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlzm52kI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/gtbpol1O82E/s1600/968545-53_super.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 224px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlzm52kI/AAAAAAAAAwQ/gtbpol1O82E/s400/968545-53_super.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488064505482697282" border="0" /></a>Faxanadu- This Zelda 2 clone is pretty awesome. Your character starts out looking like a homeless version of Jesus but you slowly gain armor and cool weapons to improve your stats and appearance. The story is fairly generic, but the game play is right on target. The password system is a pain in the ass however. This game can be found for super cheap, so I highly recommend it. Did I mention that the soundtrack is amazingly good?<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlt2F_VI/AAAAAAAAAwI/wlg_9W3qWMg/s1600/Faxanadu_NES_gameplay.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 250px; height: 219px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFlt2F_VI/AAAAAAAAAwI/wlg_9W3qWMg/s400/Faxanadu_NES_gameplay.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488064503935794514" border="0" /></a>Capcom Disney games- Ducktales, Little Nemo, and Rescue Rangers, etc. are all fantastic platformers for the NES. Each game captures the spirit of Disney and the wonderful game play of Capcom. I know Disney doesn't exactly bring the best gaming memories to mind, but these are all worthwhile titles. I would actually rank Ducktales and Little Nemo as some of the best NES games ever. Don't pass on these gems, every collector or true gamer needs these games in their collection.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFmLRgBsI/AAAAAAAAAwY/X5iQA6VB-dE/s1600/platformergamenumber07.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 256px; height: 224px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TCmFmLRgBsI/AAAAAAAAAwY/X5iQA6VB-dE/s400/platformergamenumber07.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5488064511835375298" border="0" /></a><br />That is a short list of NES hidden gems. I will continue this another day with even more obscure games like Shatterhand that rock your face off.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-8809732399444725256?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-90706527663776339402010-06-23T14:07:00.000-07:002010-06-23T14:25:50.199-07:002010-06-23T14:25:50.199-07:00BlazBlue and Deathsmiles Fan ArtAksys is bringing two big releases this summer: BlazBlue CS and Deathsmiles. One aspect of fighting games I hate are cheap ass end bosses. In the old days these bastards were created to take unsuspecting arcade customer's quarters, but more recently they seem to exist simply to annoy the player. I figured it would be fun to assemble a list of the cheapest bosses and talk about just why they are so freakin' lame to fight in the first place.<br /><br />6. Azazel (Tekken 6) - Tekken bosses can be cheap with projectiles and flying abilities, but the 6th installment's boss takes the cake. Azazel, a huge crystal dragon, stands between you and complete victory. Why is he so cheap? For starters he blocks all the time; when you do manage to hit him the AI makes him vanish before suddenly popping out of the other side of the screen to kick the shit out of you. He has a devastating projectile attack and he does insane damage with frame stealing combos. Why the hell are you fighting a giant dragon anyway?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZCoiGvI/AAAAAAAAAt4/Ku17j1oraPY/s1600/Image009.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZCoiGvI/AAAAAAAAAt4/Ku17j1oraPY/s400/Image009.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477672801783651058" border="0" /></a><br />5. Onslaught (Marvel vs. Capcom) The original Marvel vs. Capcom took the idea of making a two part boss and going nuts with it, standard versus series fare. The two part boss is named Onslaught, a mixture of Magneto and Professor X gone apeshit. His first form teleports around firing lasers that are impossible to avoid. If you make it through that nonsense, then you will see his screen-filling second form. In this form he rains downs super attacks constantly and tries to crush you with his giant hand. He can be handled fairly easily with some heavily projectile based characters like Mega Man, but good luck with Zangief or the Hulk. He is very cheap and unbalanced, but he is from the Versus series...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaaPfXkAI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/87IuVqX2eSk/s1600/mvsc_onslaught2.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 258px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaaPfXkAI/AAAAAAAAAuQ/87IuVqX2eSk/s400/mvsc_onslaught2.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477672822414741506" border="0" /></a><br />4. Igniz (King of Fighters 2001) - SNK has always been notorious for cheap bosses. Igniz should earn a prize, because his fight takes cheapness to a new level. He is hard as hell to damage, his normal combos do massive damage, and if his super hits you just go ahead and kiss your ass goodbye. He can destroy a three man team in no time, and the continue bonus of "boss starts with 1/3 health" doesn't really make him any easier to kill. For fun download him for MUGEN, he puts almost every fighter to shame.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TAfJIKP-lOI/AAAAAAAAAuw/GCq0s6N-TkQ/s1600/igniz1km2.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TAfJIKP-lOI/AAAAAAAAAuw/GCq0s6N-TkQ/s400/igniz1km2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478568613747004642" border="0" /></a><br />3. Gill (Street Fighter 3: Third Strike) - Gill is a self-proclaimed god. He also looks pretty cool aside from the fact he is barely clothed. However, his cool factor is negated to due some really cheap tricks he can pull. Since Gill is a deity, he can resurrect himself from the dead with one super move. I can't tell you how many times I beat him only to watch him come back to life to beat me instead. He also has a super move where he sprouts wings and delivers a super devastating rainbow attack that takes about 90% of your health bar and is unblockable. Good luck maintaining your sanity after losing a few rounds to Gill.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZq7vlyI/AAAAAAAAAuI/xsyEQUGt3HU/s1600/a_med_Caption13.jpg.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 260px; height: 195px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZq7vlyI/AAAAAAAAAuI/xsyEQUGt3HU/s400/a_med_Caption13.jpg.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477672812601644834" border="0" /></a><br />2. I-no (Guilty Gear XX) - I-no has two forms. One is the selectable form for players to choose on the selection screen. The other form is the hell bitch boss that looks the same as usual but gets a dramatic new move. In her boss form, I-no gets a punishing super attack that even shows a flashing warning on the screen prior to her using it. If she lands the attack, you are dead. Your only option is landing an instant kill on her prior to her getting the attack off on your character. It is much easier said than done.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASbUdUa-qI/AAAAAAAAAug/sZ0Qp5VceME/s1600/guiltygearx2_screen007.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASbUdUa-qI/AAAAAAAAAug/sZ0Qp5VceME/s400/guiltygearx2_screen007.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477673822559337122" border="0" /></a><br />1. Shin Akuma (Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo) - Akuma is a tough guy in his normal form, but when he shows his true power, watch out! Shin Akuma teleports constantly, has move priority over almost everything, and his super move is pretty much an instant kill. He is super fast and the AI is so cheap it seems like it knows your moves before you even can use them. Shin Akuma is the secret boss and he has tough requirements before he appears, but if you see him rush M. Bison on the final stage, get ready for the fight of your life.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZbnSoiI/AAAAAAAAAuA/KunsnGTX9kQ/s1600/2511520101_352743a94b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 236px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/TASaZbnSoiI/AAAAAAAAAuA/KunsnGTX9kQ/s400/2511520101_352743a94b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5477672808489329186" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Here are some runner ups that can be really frustrating as well:<br />Alpha 152 (Dead or Alive 4)<br />Geese Howard (Real Bout Fatal Fury)<br />Omega Rugal (King of Fighters series)<br />Goenitz (King of Fighters 96)<br />Magaki (King of Fighters XI)<br />Justice (original Guilty Gear)<br />V-13 (BlazBlue)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-8404354096729873893?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-18288846152426451722010-05-28T06:17:00.000-07:002010-05-28T07:00:29.412-07:002010-05-28T07:00:29.412-07:00The Quest to Collect the Mega Man Series<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I7HT7heI/AAAAAAAAAtg/bJdZl-ct4DY/s1600/8820759.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 301px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I7HT7heI/AAAAAAAAAtg/bJdZl-ct4DY/s400/8820759.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476316589806290402" border="0" /></a>Recently I have found that obtaining an entire lineage of Mega Man titles seems more and more entertaining to me. It started with me picking up Mega Man 2 at thrift store. Then I found a mint copy of Mega Man X (my personal favorite) at another thrift store. Now I own digital copies of Mega Man 9 on XBLA and Mega Man 3 on Virtual Console.<br /><br />I now own the following:<br /><br />Mega Man 2 for NES<br />Mega Man 3 for Virtual Console<br />Mega Man 8 for PSX<br />Mega Man 9 for XBLA<br />Mega Man X for SNES<br />Mega Man the Power Fighters 1 & 2 in my CPS2 arcade cabinet<br /><br />I could buy the collection games easily online, but that just seems boring and the emulation is off in some places from what I hear anyway. One of the most cool things I have ordered online recently is a box of Mega Man candy from Japan. It is called Rockmanju which is a bad pun based on Rockman and manju (Rockman being the Japanese name for Mega Man and Ju the Japanese character for ten.) Manju is a traditional cookie like treat, but I don't plan of eating it.<br /><br />The box contains the Japanese style Mega Man 10 box art. It is the only place you will find it as everywhere insist on using intentionally bad Western art to parody bad box art from the NES era. The box looks like a famicom box from back in the day which makes it all the more awesome to have in my collection. Inside the box are little cookies with 8-bit Mega Man sprites on them. Overall, Capcom went out of their way to make a great item for fans.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I7X95otI/AAAAAAAAAto/eSJhtZOeVYs/s1600/Picture+4.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I7X95otI/AAAAAAAAAto/eSJhtZOeVYs/s400/Picture+4.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476316594277294802" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I8BnebsI/AAAAAAAAAtw/4DITLswxi8Y/s1600/Picture+9.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 259px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S__I8BnebsI/AAAAAAAAAtw/4DITLswxi8Y/s400/Picture+9.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476316605457526466" border="0" /></a>Another edition has the original Japanese Rock Man art.<br /><br /></div>I plan on hitting the thrift store later today. On the "Ask Capcom" forum, I learned that only the Asian Xbox 360 special edition came with a download ticket for the movie. No Ps3 release or XBLA marketplace release outside of Asia exist (Japan doesn't fall under Asia BTW.) Do not look for a DVD or Blu-Ray either, it doesn't exist. For the less scrupulous fan don't bother looking for torrents, they don't exist either.<br />S-Kill, Capcom's resident Street Fighter guru, had this response on the message board:<br /><p style="font-style: italic;">I wish I had some exciting news, but as far as the west is concerned, the anime seems to be in limbo <img src="http://www.capcom-unity.com/tools/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-frown.gif" alt="Frown" title="Frown" border="0" /></p><span style="font-style: italic;">We're very aware fans would really like to see it, and it's quite good too. Bleh. Will update everyone immediately should I get any good news about this being available outside of Asia. </span><br /><br />I suppose the exclusive nature of the Asian XBLA download deal is making it difficult, even for Capcom, to secure rights to the film for an all region release. This is very disappoiting to hear, as Mr. Killian himself notes the anime is quite good. Hopefully this gets a legitimate release in the future, or at the very least leaked for eager fans to enjoy.<br /><br />Source:<a href="http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/24838209/Super_Street_Fighter_IV_anime_by_Gonzo?pg=3"> http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_capcom/go/thread/view/7371/24838209/Super_Street_Fighter_IV_anime_by_Gonzo?pg=3</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-3740925695716661243?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-60552453951879120382010-05-20T09:35:00.000-07:002010-05-20T09:42:19.476-07:002010-05-20T09:42:19.476-07:00Mario Art<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S_Vlte4W2UI/AAAAAAAAAs4/nXllZaSF3FE/s1600/10729997.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S_Vlte4W2UI/AAAAAAAAAs4/nXllZaSF3FE/s400/10729997.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473392754196666690" border="0" /></a>I have been pretty lazy about posting lately. All pre-owned copies of the game are now 19.99 at Gamestop. This is a very recent game with solid reviews but I suppose it flopped with poor sales. Too bad for the company and Suda51, but the Wii doesn't have very many hardcore gamers. I intend to grab a copy today as a reward to myself for making a B in my Japanese II class. What better way to celebrate than a cool Japanese game to play after exams?<br /><br />I cannot resist the sweet 8-bit mini games I've read about...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-nNLdmiymI/AAAAAAAAAsI/37wtLR_7Mg8/s1600/no-more-heroes-2-desperate-struggle-review-wii.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 232px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-nNLdmiymI/AAAAAAAAAsI/37wtLR_7Mg8/s400/no-more-heroes-2-desperate-struggle-review-wii.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470128819226724962" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-7668780509214615481?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-53945794815215225892010-05-07T09:14:00.000-07:002010-05-07T09:38:41.248-07:002010-05-07T09:38:41.248-07:00Games I am Currently PlayingI haven't made a post in awhile. It is finals time for me, and I have been gaming alot as well. Here are the games that are currently taking away from my study time:<br /><br />1. Super Street Fighter IV (Xbox 360)- I am already a big fan of this game. The new characters are all cool, except Hakan and the online has been done very well. One really cool addition is the replay channel. It is nice seeing other player's strategies and combos. Bravo, Capcom, bravo. I hope they release a DLC pack with Rolento, Elena, and R. Mika.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBVz8pRxI/AAAAAAAAArg/faaYweaR-ig/s1600/Super-Street-Fighter-IV_1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBVz8pRxI/AAAAAAAAArg/faaYweaR-ig/s400/Super-Street-Fighter-IV_1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468567690512254738" border="0" /></a>2. Record of Agarest War (Xbox 360)- I ordered this game simply for the boobie mousepad, however it is actually not a bad game at all. I usually steer clear of Idea Factory, but this game seems to be their crowning achievement. The artwork is nice, battles are fun, and the music is fitting. I also dig the marriage and generation system, it reminds me of Phantasy Star 3.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBWKzU3YI/AAAAAAAAAro/kAvpjYV5lJU/s1600/12.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 226px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBWKzU3YI/AAAAAAAAAro/kAvpjYV5lJU/s400/12.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468567696647183746" border="0" /></a>3. Space Adventure Cobra (Sega CD)- This game also seemed to be an oddity to me, so I tracked it down finally. The game is like a poor man's Snatcher. The story is ok, and the character designs look like they are out of an issue of Heavy Metal. I will keep playing this one for the story only.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBWuhFkSI/AAAAAAAAArw/RRMo6bQs3kk/s1600/Space+Adventure+Cobra2.png"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBWuhFkSI/AAAAAAAAArw/RRMo6bQs3kk/s400/Space+Adventure+Cobra2.png" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468567706234360098" border="0" /></a>4. Sakura Wars V( Wii)- I am at the end of Sakura Wars, but since I seemed to have ended up with the lamest chick, I've been hesitant to beat it. The game is awesome, and I recommend it to any strategy fan. I hope Sega releases the older titles here at some point. The world could use some more mecha and romance.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBW9POxQI/AAAAAAAAAr4/6ITkt_YAeow/s1600/sakurawars_02.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 278px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S-RBW9POxQI/AAAAAAAAAr4/6ITkt_YAeow/s400/sakurawars_02.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468567710185997570" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-5394579481521522589?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-28554378405292369702010-04-29T12:44:00.000-07:002010-04-29T12:49:36.073-07:002010-04-29T12:49:36.073-07:00Super Street Fighter IV FanartEnjoy some fanart from Pixiv to celebrate this week's release of SSF IV.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9nijGNLGXI/AAAAAAAAAqw/uk8Q15TGGzs/s1600/10273982.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 348px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9nijGNLGXI/AAAAAAAAAqw/uk8Q15TGGzs/s400/10273982.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465648715379972466" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9nijfEmu5I/AAAAAAAAAq4/vYH4wn8uXJ0/s1600/10293764.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9nijfEmu5I/AAAAAAAAAq4/vYH4wn8uXJ0/s400/10293764.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465648722054921106" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiwiQ3MI/AAAAAAAAAqo/xu22BqSNXv4/s1600/10051431.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 302px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiwiQ3MI/AAAAAAAAAqo/xu22BqSNXv4/s400/10051431.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465648709562850498" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiW9gNSI/AAAAAAAAAqg/I96AyfJxchY/s1600/9895998.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 283px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiW9gNSI/AAAAAAAAAqg/I96AyfJxchY/s400/9895998.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465648702697780514" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiOATFrI/AAAAAAAAAqY/sqOkmsskxFA/s1600/77815.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 283px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9niiOATFrI/AAAAAAAAAqY/sqOkmsskxFA/s400/77815.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465648700293584562" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-2855437840529236970?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-36325490886938564962010-04-26T10:01:00.001-07:002010-04-26T11:04:46.093-07:002010-04-26T11:04:46.093-07:00The Best Franchises Abandoned by Sega<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XTdje3duI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/JYMVKMFbVt4/s1600/shenmue_ryo.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 249px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XTdje3duI/AAAAAAAAAqQ/JYMVKMFbVt4/s400/shenmue_ryo.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464506227578336994" border="0" /></a>Sega has a long history of building up cool franchises and then ignoring them like a dead orphan. Here is the rundown of franchises that would still make money if Sega wasn't retarded:<br /><br />Alex Kidd- The awesome Master System and early Genesis had some good games going for it. Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World (I miss Shinobi too) all hold a special place in my oldschool gaming heart. These games were nice platformers with enough charisma to compete with any Mario game. Too bad Sonic came along in the early 90's and Alex Kidd (Sega's initial mascot) was tossed to the side in favor of the blue hedgehog and his "Blast Processing". He has made a small comeback recently in a kart racer and Sega tennis game, but Alex has not starred in his own title in a long time. I think the time is ripe for Alex Kidd to return. Give him a new 2-D XBLA or PSN title...better yet call it Alex Kidd in Golden Axe World.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRW1LgooI/AAAAAAAAApw/uo62dSOykBs/s1600/Alex+Kidd+in+Miracle+World_04.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 225px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRW1LgooI/AAAAAAAAApw/uo62dSOykBs/s400/Alex+Kidd+in+Miracle+World_04.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464503913046647426" border="0" /></a>Phantasy Star- I know we get online Phantasy Star games all them time, but I am talking about the original series. Phantasy Star started as an awesome space adventure RPG on the Master System. The series ended with Phantasy Star IV on the Genesis, which happens to be the best RPG on the system and a strong contender for best RPG of the 16-bit generation, only behind the phenomenal Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. Sega re-releases this series regularly on it's collection disc, so why not give it another shot? A new Phantasy Star could become the JRPG to beat Mass Effect...or at the least the horrid Star Ocean series.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRWgVlpOI/AAAAAAAAApo/y69qnn_PHiM/s1600/tut5phs4.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRWgVlpOI/AAAAAAAAApo/y69qnn_PHiM/s400/tut5phs4.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464503907451774178" border="0" /></a><br />Streets of Rage- The Streets of Rage series is the pinnacle of beat em ups. I loved Final Fight, but where was the kickass music? In Sega's SOR, that's where. I don't know when walking around punching 500 dudes in the face or kicking crazy trannys in the nuts got old, but it is time to bring it back. Also what other series let you do those cool things with a freakin' kangeroo?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRXPcH_ZI/AAAAAAAAAp4/m3TZEEXS76U/s1600/streetsofragetop10.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRXPcH_ZI/AAAAAAAAAp4/m3TZEEXS76U/s400/streetsofragetop10.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464503920095657362" border="0" /></a>Shenmue- The Dreamcast is my favorite retro system. Shenmue is one of the reasons it means so much to me. Ryo Hazuki, young karate student, has his father murdered right in front of him by a Chinese gangster known as Lan Di. Ryo then travels around Japan and China to find the bastard and uncover a plot about some magic mirrors along the way. The series stopped at the second game however, and Sega doesn't seem to care about finishing the plot since they lost a ton of money on the original two. I read in a recent issue of RetroGamer, that the rights to Shenmue are being offered by Sega to any company willing to finish the series. I hope someone takes them up of this offer. I hope even more that the company to pick it up is Bioware.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRYEqog1I/AAAAAAAAAqI/28Vw73Sb0nQ/s1600/Shenmue-Sailors.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 323px; height: 239px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRYEqog1I/AAAAAAAAAqI/28Vw73Sb0nQ/s400/Shenmue-Sailors.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464503934383588178" border="0" /></a>Golden Axe- Golden Axe: Beast Rider doesn't count as a new game in the series, I don't care what Dave Halverson has to say about it. Golden Axe was the essential Conan ripoff. It had brutal violence, scantly clad women, swords, and sorcery. I also loved kicking the crap out of little gnomes to get more magic. Here is some advice for Sega: Re-release Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder on XBLA or PSN, it will make you alot of money and make gamers happy.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRX2nqBII/AAAAAAAAAqA/rrT3y0y2uYs/s1600/gada.jpg.gif"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S9XRX2nqBII/AAAAAAAAAqA/rrT3y0y2uYs/s400/gada.jpg.gif" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464503930613007490" border="0" /></a>Hopefully one day Sega gets their shit together and makes a return to the glory days. Bayonetta was incredible and Sonic 4 looks like it will be tons of fun; these are both steps in the right direction. If Sonic can make a comeback, then I have faith the franchises above can be revived as well.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-3632549088693856496?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-22195653381593442412010-04-21T18:25:00.000-07:002010-04-21T18:29:42.078-07:002010-04-21T18:29:42.078-07:00What Would Super Street Fighter IV Look Like on NES?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S8-lv2ZV0lI/AAAAAAAAApg/B7p0SYvN0ew/s1600/sfiii3.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 342px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S8-lv2ZV0lI/AAAAAAAAApg/B7p0SYvN0ew/s400/sfiii3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462767114497938002" border="0" /></a><br />I found this awesome 8 bit image today and just had to share it. Last week, Capcom held it's annual Captivate event in Hawaii. All of their new games were on display and were supposed to be kept secret until next week. That was the plan, but one site said, "fuck that nonsense."<br /><a href="http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=7838">http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=7838</a><br /><br />This is great news for fighting fans and comic nerds. Since I fall into both categories, all I can say is thank you Capcom. Here are characters I hope make the new ( and supposedly huge) roster:<br /><br />Marvel side<br /><br />The Punisher- Frank Castle is just too cool to pass up and he has acquired two feature films under his belt since the last Marvel game.<br /><br />The Fantastic Four- Dr. Doom needs his real rivals, plus the Thing is one my favorite heroes.<br /><br />Blade- Watch out Darkstalkers, Wesley Snip...erm...Blade doesn't mess around.<br /><br />Thor- He is a freakin' thunder god. Nuff said.<br /><br />Dark Phoenix- She is super powerful and her lack of compassion would make her a fine choice for this game's endboss.<br /><br />Capcom side<br /><br />Dante- The hero of the Devil May Cry series would fit right in with the vs. series. His combo heavy attacks would be fun and the ability to become a demon would be a neat gimmick as well.<br /><br />MegaMan X- He is seriously the only MegaMan not to be used outside his own series. X is a badass, he needs to be in this game...especially if they add Zero.<br /><br />Bayonetta- She is like a female Dante...possibly even stronger. She would be really fun to have in here, plus she is pretty sexy.<br /><br />Gene- I know not many people played Godhand, but the main character was practically built for a fighting game. He fights like Kenshiro from Fist of the Northstar, if you think that is lame...You are already dead.<br /><br />Wesker- The ultimate villain from the Resident Evil series need some vs. series representation. If he fights like Agent Smith from the Matrix like in Resident Evil 5 then it would be even sweeter to have him as a selectable fighter.<br /><br />I guess some more official announcements will be heard this coming week or next week. Knowing Capcom they will drag out each character unveiling for months, so who knows when we will know the full roster. I just hope we get some cool surprise along the way. I'm crossing my fingers for the characters I mentioned and some weirdos like Phoenix Wright!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-3703266584745368367?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-35789098639321895902010-04-13T18:57:00.000-07:002010-04-13T19:06:40.797-07:002010-04-13T19:06:40.797-07:00So Long Super Nintendo Collection<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S8Ui444uJCI/AAAAAAAAApQ/MXbJ1yWK0Rc/s1600/106097794_2e78d88aff.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 319px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S8Ui444uJCI/AAAAAAAAApQ/MXbJ1yWK0Rc/s400/106097794_2e78d88aff.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5459808483994903586" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I am parting ways with my SNES and Super Famicom games via eBay. I picked up MegaMan 2 at a thrift store yesterday for pretty cheap. It is so hard, but I did manage to beat Woodman earlier this morning. The game is not mentioned hardly ever, but consists of one of the coolest concepts in gaming. LSD was released in 1998 in Japan as a dream simulator. The product was one of the three released at that time, the other two being a music CD and book, which described the dreams of an Asmik Ace staff member who kept a dream journal for ten years.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S7EKZUbKQTI/AAAAAAAAAlw/4NU4g1uiZiQ/s1600/lsd_100.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S7EKZUbKQTI/AAAAAAAAAlw/4NU4g1uiZiQ/s400/lsd_100.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454152053818016050" border="0" /></a>The "game" puts you into a random dream design based on a large number of basic level designs with 500 patterns of background music used for each dream sequence. The dreams can be really surreal and creepy with one part of a dream taking place in a dark city where the only other person in sight upon approach has their head fall off (wtf) then this leads to the next dream where you are running through a small maze from sumo wrestlers. You can end the dream early by falling off a cliff, though they rarely last past ten minutes anyway. When the dream ends you are presented with a chart of where your dream puts your state of mind at the time. It is pretty awesome and strange at the same time.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S7EKY0wdu8I/AAAAAAAAAlo/nj96nUwyRZ4/s1600/SLPS_015-7.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S7EKY0wdu8I/AAAAAAAAAlo/nj96nUwyRZ4/s400/SLPS_015-7.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454152045317438402" border="0" /></a>LSD is a very rare game, but one well worth tracking down. It is a novel piece of software that gives you the chance to look at dreams through someone else's eyes. The graphics are very primitive and most of the music samples lean toward sheer madness, but something kept me coming back again and again. Also, don't believe what you read elsewhere, LSD does have an ending. You simply need to trigger every dream FMV that can occur in the game. It is a long process, but I played it for around a month, and I was able to do it. Check this weird game out, just don't do it while on drugs, that sounds like a nghtmare in the making.<br />For more info: <a href="http://www.mac.kadath.org/Media.html">http://www.mac.kadath.org/Media.html</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2536655362222612753-2599368815128065003?l=vgafterlife.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Leehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01295270874390217697noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2536655362222612753.post-21658982994120920482010-03-18T18:08:00.000-07:002010-03-18T18:16:52.043-07:002010-03-18T18:16:52.043-07:00Resonance of Fate FanartResonance of Fate (aka End of Eternity) just released, and it is pretty awesome. To celebrate this underdog release here is some nice fanart from Pixiv. The site gave the game a 2. In a "challenge" of sorts, Destructoid gave it a 10. Neither of these two scores represent an accurate reflection of the value of this game; so I am going to break it down in a semi-professional review style.<br /><br />Deadly Premonition was initially shown at TGS in 2007 as Rainy Woods. The game was created as a homage to the old show, "Twin Peaks." The homage went a little too far and the creators had to change a few things to avoid a law suit. What we get is the somewhat edited version of their dream project which comes out as a weird hybrid of Shenmue/sandbox game/horror/murder mystery. These elements combined make a pretty unique game that is well worth the $20 admission fee.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6Fvosa5ACI/AAAAAAAAAjY/cgUBIiLjaxs/s1600-h/deadlypremonition111008.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6Fvosa5ACI/AAAAAAAAAjY/cgUBIiLjaxs/s400/deadlypremonition111008.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449759769004408866" border="0" /></a><br />The game was released with minimal advertising as a budget title. I picked it up after seeing the controversy at Destructoid regarding it's score. The story follows FBI agent Francis York Morgan (York to his pals) and his alter ego, Zach, through their investigation into the red seed mystery and the "Raincoat Murderer" in Greenvale. The investigation involves questioning suspects, finding clues, and searching haunted areas where the killer lurks. In between these events, the player can choose to goof off with fishing, random fetch quests, and darts.<br /><br />The graphics aren't going to win any awards. They look very primitive compared to games like Gears of War or Mass Effect, however they do have a certain charm to them. The graphics would be perfect on PS2, but not the 360...four years into it's lifespan! I never saw the graphics as a huge flaw, but do not go into this game expecting an awesome tour-de-force of visuals; you will be largely disappointed.<br /><br />The music ranges from offbeat to "why the hell are they playing this now?" I can't recall the music ever truly being consistent in one scene, as it will go from a serious sax and piano song for mood purposes to a whimsical tune with whistling in seconds. This can break serious tension in the game's more climatic scenes, but often times you don't mind as the dialogue is just as unusual and campy. My one big issue with the sound is the music often overpowers the character's voices, making some scenes hard to understand. I attempted to fix the audio levels, but it didn't seem to matter.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6FvpI6fLpI/AAAAAAAAAjg/7RIuMjUVS0Y/s1600-h/DeadlyPrem_Capture7_1257878519.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6FvpI6fLpI/AAAAAAAAAjg/7RIuMjUVS0Y/s400/DeadlyPrem_Capture7_1257878519.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449759776653127314" border="0" /></a>The action gameplay itself is messy. The game starts off on the wrong foot with the first hour being a boring zombie hunt through a dark forest. This crappy area will give you an idea of how the later haunted areas play out: dull and predictable. York wanders through zombie infested areas filled with monsters and crates as he searches for clues to his case. One cool (but overdone) part has you running from the Raincoat Killer, the main antagonist. These sections break the monotony and keep you on the edge of your seat kinda like the Clocktower games.<br /><br />The detective gameplay is a little better. You drive around the town like Grand Theft Auto, talking to fellow cops or suspects for leads. You can choose to eat dinner and sleep, as you have a meter for both of these things. They will never piss you off as there is always ample power ups to stake off hunger and sleep deprivation (Hello black coffee!) Deadly premonition offers plenty of mini games and side missions for those who get bored with the main storyline.<br /><br />The controls are pretty bad as well. The controls in the action scenes control like the first three Resident Evil games, oldschool tank controls. While I never died over poor control issues, some scenes could be annoying when the camera reversed (reversing the control scheme with it.) The driving sections also control pretty badly.<br /><br />You maybe curious now, why do I like this game? The insane characters and really weird story are awesome. Detective York has a split personality which he talks about 1980's films pretty often, one character is secretly a crossdresser, one guy always wears a gas mask, and another dude makes everything he says rhyme at the end of his sentences...the list goes on and on; the characters are very memorable in that "Twin Peaks" sorta way. The story has so many turns, you will never know who the real culprit is. Also the campy dialogue that seems straight out of an Ed Wood movie had me laughing pretty often. I would give this aspect of the game a perfect score.<br /><br />A few boss fights occur toward the end of the game. These fight are pretty cool and are a definite change of pace from the four other enemies in the game. My only complaint is the heavy use of quick button press sequences to dodge attacks, it is very annoying. Also the final battle is a little too easy in my opinion.<br /><br />Deadly Premonition is one of the strangest games I have played and beaten in a long time. The controls, graphics, and music are all kinda shitty. However the game's wacky nature gives it a "so bad it's good" feel toward the whole ordeal. After you beat the game, a bonus section opens up showing a photo gallery with pictures of the "real" Greenvale. The dedication they went through to make this game look like the town and give it the surreal feeling of a David Lynch film is amazing. I would recommend this game to people who love weird cinema, the Clocktower series, or cheap yet entertaining games. In the end, if I have to assign a number to Deadly Premonition it would be 7...but assigning numbers is lame, so I will just say: BUY IT, THE GAME IS 20 DOLLARS!<br /><br />Randomness:<br /><br /><ul><li>Be on the lookout for a scene that plays the full song of "Amazing Grace" for no apparent reason.</li><li>The original game had the two angelic children in the dream sequences played by two midgets in tuxedos and the main character looked very similar to the main character from "Twin Peaks." These cool David Lynch tributes were edited out of the final version.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6FvpQCsUMI/AAAAAAAAAjo/58q6R2rwur8/s1600-h/943397_20070921_screen002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qD8qViAtzog/S6FvpQCsUMI/AAAAAAAAAjo/58q6R2rwur8/s400/943397_20070921_screen002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449759778566590658" border="0" /></a></li><li>Deadly Premonition aka Red Seeds Profile was released in the US before Japan.
